Radiation

Worcestershire has no nuclear installations such as nuclear power plants or reprocessing facilities. However, the county could still be affected by a release of radiation during the conveyance of radioactive materials, or at an installation outside the region.

Radiation control

In order to protect the public, the transportation of radioactive materials is strictly controlled. The Ministry of Defence provides further guidance on this. To view this click here

Under the Radiation Emergency Preparedness and Public Information Regulations (REPPIR), Local Authorities have a duty to supply information and advise to the public in the event of a radiation emergency. Worcestershire County Council works closely with its professional partners to ensure a rapid and co-ordinated response.

What if there was a release of radiation?

In the case of a radiation emergency, the public will be given advice and guidance through local radio & television.
